Cash Quick Offices in Georgia

Why There Are No Payday Loans in Georgia

Under Georgia law (the Payday Lending Act, O.C.G.A. § 16-17) payday loans are illegal, and a payday loan made to a Georgia resident is void. If you see a “payday loan” or “cash advance” offered in Georgia, check who is lending and under which law.

Installment Loans in Georgia

An installment loan gives you the money up front and spreads repayment over fixed monthly payments. Lenders that make loans of $3,000 or less in Georgia must be licensed by the Department of Banking and Finance under the Georgia Installment Loan Act. Your payment amount, APR and total cost are written on the agreement before you sign, and you can usually pay off early.

Georgia Title Pawn Rates: a $1,000 Example

A car title loan in Georgia is a title pawn, regulated by O.C.G.A. § 44-12-131 and licensed by the local government. Each period is 30 days. Charges can be up to 25% of the principal per 30 days for the first 90 days, then up to 12.5%, plus a lien-recording fee when paid. These are state maximums, not a quote.

$1,000 title pawnMaximum chargeWhat you owe if paid off then
Day 1–30$250 (25%)$1,250
Each 30-day period up to day 90$250 (25%)$1,000 + unpaid charges
Each 30-day period after day 90$125 (12.5%)$1,000 + unpaid charges

Paying only the charge does not reduce the principal. After the due date Georgia gives a 30-day grace period to redeem the vehicle (O.C.G.A. § 44-14-403), with an extra charge of up to 12.5%; after that the vehicle can be forfeited.
