Title Loan Costs in Alabama and Georgia
In Alabama a title loan follows the Alabama Pawnshop Act: up to 25% of the amount borrowed per month, with a due date no sooner than 30 days. In Georgia a title pawn follows O.C.G.A. § 44-12-131: up to 25% per 30 days for the first 90 days, then 12.5%, plus permitted fees such as lien recording. State maximums on $1,000, with the principal unchanged:
| State and time | Charge for the period | Total charges | To redeem with principal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alabama, first 30 days | $250 | $250 | $1,250 |
| Alabama, 4 months | $250 each | $1,000 | $2,000 |
| Georgia, first 30 days | $250 | $250 | $1,250 |
| Georgia, 90 days | $250 each | $750 | $1,750 |
| Georgia, 4th period | $125 | $875 | $1,875 |
Paying only the monthly charge does not reduce the $1,000 you owe. Pay down principal whenever you can – every later charge gets smaller.
Renewal, Repossession and Redemption
Alabama: after the due date you have 30 days to redeem the title by paying the balance plus an additional charge; after that the vehicle is forfeited. Georgia: O.C.G.A. § 44-14-403 gives a 30-day grace period with an extra charge of up to 12.5%, and the vehicle can't be sold during it. In both states a default can lead to repossession, so a redemption period is not a promise you keep the car. Call us before the due date if you can't pay. Georgia title pawns are licensed by local government (Georgia AG guidance).

If You're Having Trouble Repaying
Call your lender before the due date and ask about a payment arrangement. In Alabama, a payday lender must offer a written plan of four equal monthly payments at no extra cost before suing on an unpaid payday loan. Before taking new high-cost debt, ask the biller for an extension, check for employer hardship help, or ask a bank or credit union about a small-dollar loan.
